Description
Window is the 25th studio album from acclaimed cornetist Kirk Knuffke. Joined by bassist Stomu Takeishi and legendary jazz drummer Bill Goodwin, Knuffke offers a 13-track exploration in jazz minimalism, presenting both his distinct approach as an instrumentalist and, on three tracks, a seldom-heard vocal facet of his artistry. This is music that breathes, spacious and unhurried. A deeply patient trio recording, Window touches on the ambient in its approach to composition, sound, and group interplay.
“This trio is really a dream to play with. It’s a truly one-of-a-kind unit and the only time you’ll hear Stomu and Bill together,” says Knuffke. “I feel completely free to investigate my most personal compositions. It’s intimate and full of breadth, full of freedom of expression.”
“Like many musicians in his peer group, the cornetist Kirk Knuffke harbors a dual commitment to formal experimentation and bedrock tradition: There’s no either-or.” – NEW YORK TIMES
“…Knuffke isn’t the least bit reticent about following his restless muse wherever it leads him. The result is a ballooning body of work that is at once prolific, invitingly diverse, and perhaps most dependably, far from predictable.” – DUSTED
“Knuffke’s cornet playing is flawless. He can deliver burning runs, slur and chirp notes, all with full command of his most demanding instrument.” – ALL ABOUT JAZZ
