“The wealth and riches embedded in these grooves deserve your full attention. Naked, Stoned and Stabbed is a gift to the senses…simply put this is best thing I’ve heard so far in 2010.” (Blogs San Diego)
“Naked, Stoned & Stabbed is no exercise in hippy nostalgia, but a fresh take on old styles – much like the rest of Mushroom’s marvelous, creative oeuvre.” (Blurt)
“Mushroom are more or less the bastard children of electric Miles, the Brit-prog Canterbury scene, Krautrock, and the timeless Frisco Crisco. The blend…keeps with the slipstream sounds of today heard in groups as diverse as the Sun City Girls, Tortoise, Medeski Martin & Wood, and virtually everyone featured in Signal to Noise.” (The Village Voice)
MUSHROOM, a musicians collective based in the San Francisco Bay area, have announced their first local shows in over a year. Celebrating the release of a new album entitled NAKED, STONED & STABBED, the band appears at THE MAKE OUT ROOM in San Francisco on Friday, July 23 followed by a performance at THE STARRY PLOUGH in Berkeley on Saturday, July 24.
“In a way, [Naked, Stoned & Stabbed] recalls Brian Eno’s Another Green World, as pieces inexplicably blossom, then just as enigmatically fade. For the most part, verse-chorus-verse and catchy melody are supplanted by mood and instrumental interaction.” (East Bay Express)
NAKED, STONED & STABBED marks a decidedly new phase in Mushroom’s 15 year history, resulting in an acoustic, ambient blend of eastern and western hemispheres that represents a cross-continental Cinema Verite travelogue of time and space. Citing influences ranging from Alice Coltrance to Brian Eno, MUSHROOM gives each song a varied approach in both inspiration and instrumentals, employing the use of a sitar, violin, pump organ, celesta, vibraharp, dulcimer, and flutaphone to produce an experience that is both dynamic and captivating.
