Description

“…loose, easygoing, and totally engaging…” – WXPN THE KEY

“Colorful doesn’t begin to do it justice…Marco Benevento is sheer joy, the antidote for whatever ails you. – BROOKLYN VEGAN

Recorded in one single take at Applehead Recording in Woodstock, NY in front of a sold out studio audience this past summer, ‘Woodstock Sessions’ marks Marco Benevento’s inauguration into the acclaimed series, which already includes Bad Brains, Medeski Martin & Wood + Nels Cline and Joseph Arthur among others.

The track-listing spans Benevento’s entire catalog. He and his band—Karina Rykman on bass and Andy Borger on drums—perform the entire 22-minute “The Story of Fred Short” suite from last year’s studio album of the same name, while “Greenpoint” from 2010’s ‘Between Needles & Nightfall,’ as well as “At The Show” from ‘Swift,’ are also presented.

For more than a decade, Benevento has been amassing an extensive body of work with studio albums and live performances that connect the vast space between LCD Soundsystem and Leon Russell—a union of pulsating dance rock energy with quirky, earthy songwriting to match.

Marco Benevento’s previous studio LP, ‘The Story of Fred Short,’ and this companion live release, ‘Woodstock Sessions,’ mark some of his finest and most adventurous work to date. “Reminiscent of Dr. John’s New Orleans psychedelia and piano chops with a hint of Father John Misty’s general coolness, Marco Benevento brings something very unique to the modern pop world,” wrote The Wild Honey Pie, while the LA Times declared, “Benevento continues to straighten his twisted sound into the guise of an indie-rock singer-songwriter, harnessing his inventive sonic palette into rewardingly bite-size pop songs that touch on disco and soul.”
